The Ballard Weekly's first edition was published on October 19, 2004. Kevin Davis was the Publisher. The paper transfered hands in 2007. Keith Elrod, the General manager for Servant Inc., became the Publisher in January 2007. In August 2007, Anita Bugg became owner/publisher and remains so to date.
As the name indicates, the publication is published
weekly on Wednesday.
A feature of the publication is "The Beacon" - a publication produced by the students of
Ballard
Memorial
High School . This publication covers the events, students and student life at the high school. Local businesses sponsor this feature.
The Ballard Weekly proudly supports the Ballard County Community. Subscriptions purchased help support community charities. The Ballard Weekly donates $5 of each subscription to one of the following: Ballard Memorial School System organizations; Relay for Life; Let's Beautify LaCenter; The American Red Cross-Ballard county.
The Ballard Weekly will be sponsoring a scholarship for a media/journalism/communications major beginning in 2009.
In June of 2008, Anita Bugg joined partnership with Ivan Potter of Clinton, Kentucky and Michael Toon of the Carlisle Weekly and formed and published a new publication called "The Mississippi River Journal". This new publication covers and reports on events that take place in the four river counties, Ballard, Carlisle, Hickman and Fulton. 10,000 copies are available twice monthly with over 8,000 being mailed directly to homes in these counties as well as West Paducah, Kentucky.
